Stephen D. Neeleman MD
Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Stephen Neeleman is the CEO and founder of HealthEquity (www.healthequity.com), a personal health care financial service and health savings account company based in Draper, UT. Dr. Neeleman founded HealthEquity to repair the fractured relationship between patients and their physicians and to help more people obtain quality health insurance by re-introducing consumerism to health care.
As a board-certified physician, Steve brings to HealthEquity passion and firsthand knowledge from the practice of medicine.
Prior to his medical training, Steve worked as general manager for Morris Air (later acquired by Southwest Airlines) in Utah. Steve combined efficiency, technology, and excellent customer service to succeed in a rocky industry. This innovative business model allowed Morris Air to rise above financially struggling competitors. Steve's goal is to use this model to help save another struggling industry: health care.
In addition to his duties as CEO of HealthEquity, Steve is currently a practicing general and trauma surgeon for Intermountain Health Care at American Fork Hospital and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Utah.
Steve was appointed by Utah Governor Gary Herbert to serve as a board member of
HIP Utah
, Utah’s high-risk insurance pool. He also serves on the Council for Affordable Health Insurance HSA Working Group, and on America’s Health Insurance Plans’ HSA Leadership Council. Steve is a former assistant professor of surgery at the University of Arizona and the co-author of

Steve completed his undergraduate degree and played football at Utah State University. He attended medical school at the University of Utah and completed his surgical training at the University of Arizona.
Jon Kessler
Executive Chairman
Jon Kessler is executive chairman of HealthEquity.
Jon previously founded WageWorks, the nation’s largest administrator of employer-sponsored benefit accounts. During his tenure as chairman and CEO, WageWorks was named to the Inc. 500 list of US private growth companies three consecutive years and grew to nearly $100m in revenue.
Jon was also previously a senior economist during the Clinton and Bush (Sr.) administrations and a director in the tax consulting practice at Arthur Andersen LLP. He is board chairman of health insurance start-up Healthcharge.
Jon holds a master's degree in public policy economics from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor's from the George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Jon Kessler joined HealthEquity in early 2009, with a focus on driving the sales and marketing teams to success. Jon adds significant industry experience to an already talented and experienced management team.
Darcy Mott
Chief Financial Officer
Darcy Mott joined HealthEquity as executive vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer in March 2007. At HealthEquity, Darcy is responsible for all finance and accounting operations, along with the legal, purchasing, and internal control departments.
Darcy began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. where he served a variety of public and private audit clients in both the Boise and Chicago offices. After nine years, Darcy left public accounting and joined Novell, Inc., a networking software company.
At Novell, he served for 12 years in various financial management positions, including eight years as treasurer. Darcy had responsibility for all treasury functions, external financial reporting, shareholder services, credit and collections, risk management, internal audit, corporate travel,corporate aviation, and worldwide facilities.
In 1999, Darcy joined The Canopy Group, a technology investment company, as vice president, treasurer, and chief financial officer. At Canopy, he was responsible for all finance operations and was on the Board of Directors of several portfolio companies, both public and private. Since leaving Canopy in December 2004, Darcy has served as an independent investor and business consultant, and has been a part-time employee of ThinkAtomic, Inc., a high-tech development and venture group.
Darcy holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Brigham Young University and is a certified public accountant.
Steve Lindsay
Senior Vice President of Service Delivery
Steve Lindsay is HealthEquity's senior vice president of operations. In this role, Steve leads all aspects of the operational servicing of HealthEquity's members and clients, and is also responsible for the People (HR) function of the company.
Prior to joining HealthEquity, Steve served as a vice president at Ingenix. There, he played a key role in aligning business functions and people within the organization to facilitate and scale for sustained organic and acquisition-based annual growth of more than 30% This included identifying and leading the execution of operational changes that contributed materially to profitable sales growth.
Before joining Ingenix, Steve served as a senior leader for FranklinCovey. In this capacity he identified and carried out strategic initiatives critical to the successful turn-around of the business' sales effectiveness and operational efficiencies through people as well as to increasing the organization's ability to execute against organizational priorities.
Steve has also served in several leadership roles on the board of the Salt Lake City chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He is committed to organizations that give hope and encouragement to those in need. Steve is a proven people leader known for accelerating business growth through people.
E. Craig Keohan
Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing
Craig Keohan serves as senior vice president of the HealthEquity Sales and Marketing department.
Prior to joining HealthEquity, Craig was president and a founding executive member of First Horizon Msaver, an HSA administrator. Craig was responsible customer service, business strategy, operations, marketing and sales at First Horizon Msaver.
Craig’s more than 30 years of executive health care benefits and banking experience has resulted in his receiving multiple accolades for his expertise and contributions to the consumer-driven health care (CDHC) industry. In 2007, he was awarded the CDHC CEO Leadership Award. In 2008, he was awarded Best CDHC Card Program as part of the annual CDHC Awards presented by Prepaid Media. In 2006, Craig was invited to the White House to attend an HSA strategy session led by President George W. Bush. He has also consulted leaders in Congress and the administration regarding CDHC issues.
Craig serves as Chairman Emeritus of the American Bankers Association HSA Council and was awarded Celent Model Healthcare Bank in 2009. He most recently was a guest on Lifetime television network’s

David Hall
Senior Vice President, West Region
David Hall is the senior vice president, west region for HealthEquity. He is also co-founder of HealthEquity with CEO Dr. Stephen Neeleman. The pair first worked together at Morris Air where they observed how efficiency, technology, and customer service could build a successful company even in the most struggling of industries.
Prior to co-founding HealthEquity, Dave served as president of TimeMarker, Inc., a company that helped other businesses leverage the internet to sell their time-perishable inventory using a proprietary wireless exchange platform.
After the sale of TimeMarker to Prime Holdings, Inc., Dave joined the Peppers & Rogers Group, a firm specializing in customer relationship management strategy. He worked with companies such as EDS, Mazda, and Blue Shield of California to develop customer relationship management strategies for maximizing profitability and revenue growth.
In addition to these business ventures, Dave worked for Ernst and Young in their Strategic Advisory Services group. In this capacity, he worked with Fortune 500 companies on a broad range of strategic issues including: new product development, supply chain optimization, and customer segmentation.
Dave received a master of business administration from Brigham Young University and a bachelor's in English from Weber State University.
Matthew Sydney
Senior Vice President, East Region
As the senior vice president, east region for HealthEquity, Matthew Sydney plays a key role in helping HealthEquity’s health care partners develop and execute successful consumer-driven health care strategies and programs. He provides both guidance and leadership to partners and customers while overseeing client procurement and revenue growth.
Matthew has more than a decade of experience helping health plans and employers nationwide develop and implement health and wellness products and programs. He has consistently demonstrated success by creating products that resonate with individuals while simultaneously supporting employers’ and health plans’ program and cost-control objectives.
Before joining HealthEquity in 2005, Matthew held positions as vice president of account management and product development for LifeCare, Inc., senior director of business and product development for InteliHealth, an Aetna Company, and health and welfare consultant for Towers Perrin. In these roles, Matthew provided sales, account management, and product development leadership and innovation.
Matthew holds a master of public health from Emory University and a bachelor of science from the University of Michigan.
Cheryl Turner
Senior Vice President, Enterprise Solutions
As HealthEquity’s senior vice president of enterprise solutions, Cheryl Turner helps HealthEquity’s national employer partners develop and execute consumer-driven health care strategies and programs and is focused on continuing to grow HealthEquity’s leading health care savings accounts, reimbursement accounts, retiree, and VEBA programs and business.
Cheryl has more than 10 years of experience helping national employers develop and implement programs focused on improving the efficiency of health care and health care spending. Throughout her career, she’s proven herself to be a successful and innovative leader and has excelled at creating customer success and strong relationships within the large employer market and consulting community.
Prior to joining HealthEquity in 2009, Cheryl held key enterprise solution, sales, and account positions with PayFlex Systems, WageWorks, Inc., Fujitsu, and BMC Software.
Cheryl earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Auburn University.
Mike Chapman
Chief Technology Officer
Mike Chapman joined HealthEquity as chief information officer in April 2005. At HealthEquity, Mike is responsible for all software development, technology infrastructure, and information services functions.
Mike spent his early career developing software for the defense industry and later creating advanced developer tools and methodologies. He joined Novell in 1993, where he was appointed senior product manager, Java technologies and was responsible for critical platform developer strategies and retraining more than 2,000 internal software engineers in new software development technologies and tools.
In 1999, he left Novell to become the CTO at Evergreen Internet and successfully productized a framework for e-commerce development licensed to large entities, such as GE Power Systems and Merck.
Prior to joining HealthEquity, he founded eBusiness Software Consulting that specialized in applying advanced technologies and methodologies to health care problems. In this capacity, he revamped how members, dependents, and brokers interact with their insurance carrier for Select Health in Utah. He has also participated in several start-ups and taught in the MIT program for the University of Phoenix.
Mike holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from George Mason University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Utah.
Tessa White
Vice President of People
Tessa White serves as the vice president of people for HealthEquity. She brings over 20 years of human resources background in the software and health care field. Most recently, she was the vice president of human capital for Ingenix, a part of United HealthGroup. In that role, she managed compensation, stock programs, talent management, and hiring during a high-growth acquisition stage of the company.
Prior to her experience there, she worked as vice president of human resources for PowerQuest, a high-tech storage management organization (now part of Symantec) where she received the prestigious President’s Circle Legacy Award for her work in leadership development. In that capacity, she helped open numerous international arms in Europe and Asia.
Tessa also worked at Corel Corporation and Covey Leadership Center where she served both as an HR generalist, in addition to specialist roles, such as recruiter, benefits manager, and leadership trainer. In addition, she has been active for many years in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), acting as president and in several other board positions in her local chapter. She attended Utah State University on academic scholarship, where she studied Journalism.
